Why Fit is critical for every rider

Fit is one of the most important factors when riding a bike. We think it is just as important as brakes, pedals or the bike itself. If you are not comfortable on your bike you are less likely to ride it, and for the athlete fit equals efficiency and power.

Proper fit allows the rider to get the most out of their riding experience and investment. More comfort, less strain, and lower chance of injury or re-injury. If you have suffered from injury a proper fit is absolutely necessary.

Not all bike fitting processes are created equal. At Harpeth Bicycles only the best proven fit technology, science and technique are employed. Just because an experienced shop professional eye balls you and your bike and says, “raise this, lower that… trust me I’ve been doing this for 100 years” doesn’t make it right. Proper fit is not an opinion. It is a proven process that uncovers what your body requires.

Harpeth Bicycles is the only bicycle shop in Middle Tennessee certified by the Serotta Fit Institute (SICI). What makes SICI system superior to all others? Click here to find out. Our certified – yes, that’s correct, certified fit specialists bring with them more than a decade of combined experience and it shows, experience it and enjoy.

Get Fit – Basic

Are you a recreational rider? Have a bike but don’t feel as comfortable riding it as you would like to be?  We can optimize your bike for comfort. This process is faster, less expensive and not as intensive as our other options. We will set up our SICI Size Cycle to match your current measurements, then manipulate each contact point one by one while looking for improvements in posture, comfort, pedal stroke, and efficiency. Approximate fit time 1 hour. $150.00 – Price included with bike purchase of $1,000+

Get Fit – Performance

Are you an aggressive recreational rider, club rider or competitive athlete? Whether you are a mountain or road cyclist this is the fit that will help you improve your game. At the Performance Level, our ability to fine tune your position is increased. Instead of starting with your existing measurements, we start with you. Your body informs the entire process from start to finish. From the one-on-one interview to flexibility testing to perfecting your position using the size cycle.

Once we have everything dialed to perfection, we take the main contact points on the bike (stem, seat, handlebars, and crank arms) and match them up to what your body requires. This will take a bike that fits well and make it fit perfectly. This fit is recommended once every one to two years or whenever there is change in body composition. i.e. weight gain or loss, goal change, etc. Approximate fit time 2 – 3 hours. $275.00 Price is included with initial bike purchase over $2,500

Get Fit – Performance Plus

A fully custom bicycle requires a much more rigorous fitting and measurement process.  We start with a blank slate and work up from there. We build up a picture of you as a cyclist starting from scratch. All of this data will represent your perfect “virtual” bicycle to create the blue print that will become your custom bike made for you and no one else.

Instead of taking your bicycle and seeing how close we  we can get, we hit the bulls-eye. By partnering with custom builders like Seven and Cysco Cycles, we can translate that perfect virtual bicycle into a reality including very specific ride qualities. Couple that with a pro-level build from our experienced mechanic staff and you have a bike that will perform for you better than anything else on the market. No compromises. We’re talking dream bike territory from custom bike on a budget to spare no expense. Approximate fit time 3 hours.
