Meet the Crew
The staff at Harpeth Bicycles was selected via a rigorous elimination process involving bowling ball stacking, playing card marksmanship, ability to go for long periods without sleep, and general good looks. Okay, maybe not the good looks part. Or the rest of it. But if we had used such a method, we’d be hard pressed to have found a better group of people to work with.
Fred Cothren
In a former life (ok, the early 90s), Fred followed the Grateful Dead around the country while wearing a skirt. As a respected professional within the bicycle community, he has replaced the skirt with a SportKilt, and live Dead shows with… the Grateful Dead station on Pandora.
Fred is a SICI certified bicycle fitter who has helped countless cyclists find their perfect fit. He races XC and just made the switch back to a singlespeed mountain bike because he was sick and tired of having every ride be so damn easy.

Chris Smith
Among his many other talents, Chris can grow a full beard in the time it takes to build a 32 spoke 3x cross front wheel. He once built up 10 Jamis bikes in one day (last week in fact) and took each of them on a century ride to make sure they were broken in. This is the only picture of actual work being done. Everyone else is faking.
Chris is a SICI certified fitter, mechanic extraordinaire, is working on his Doctorate of Physical Therapy, and avoids public places during full moons.

Ben Bynum
Ben Bynum is our 21 year old mechanical prodigy. He grew up in Nashville and was already getting his hands dirty and putting things back together by age 5 (he learned to take them apart much earlier). During high school, Ben started working on bikes and hasn’t looked back. He raced road bikes for 3 years, but currently rides as his primary form of transportation instead of competition.
Ben could fix your car if it wasn’t working correctly, but since it won’t fit through the front door we aren’t offering that as a service just yet.

Nathan Taylor
Growing up in an army family, Nathan hails from Iowa by way of everywhere else. He studied ceramic sculpture in college before abandoning art for a life of crime statistics.
Nathan races with the Harpeth Bicycles Racing team as a Cat 5, and has been riding far too long to be this slow. When he’s not getting dropped from a road race, he runs this website (at least until Jonathan changes the password). Even though he doesn’t really work here, we gave Nathan an email address. Feel free to email him so he can forward your email to Fred.

Gabrielle Woody
Gabrielle works the back of the house (and sometimes the front) at Harpeth Bicycles, and is largely responsible for the look and feel of the shop. She accompanied the Harpeth Bicycles Racing Team on their training camp trip to North Georgia and surprised everybody with her daredevil descending abilities.
When she’s not riding her Soma B-side 650b mountain bike, Gabrielle spends her time arranging the collected works of metal god Yngwie Malmsteen for hammer dulcimer.

Jonathan Woody
Jonathan is the owner of Harpeth Bicycles, LLC. Growing up racing dirt bikes helped develop his high threshold for pain and general disdain for personal safety. After breaking all of the bones in his body except for his right femur, he replaced them 3-2.5 double butted titanium tubing as a preventative measure.
His love for bicycles and desire to make people happy compelled him to join the bicycling biz. Also the founder of Artisan Wood Products, Jonathan’s philosophy at both companies is that people come first and relationships are superior to the dollar. “No matter how expensive or economical a bike is, we are in the business of making people happy – that’s bicycles.” He rides a custom Cysco and races with the Harpeth Bicycles Racing Team.
